Hawkeye Cagers Win Second Straight

The Iowa Hawkeyes beat South Carolina State 82-69 on Monday night, their first game since losing guard Anthony Tucker to an indefinite suspension related to an alcohol related arrest.

Matt Gatens led the way with 20 points as four Hawkeyes scored in double figures. Gatens would also record a team high eight assists, half of their total of 16, to just two turnovers. He added five rebounds as well to complete an amazing floor game.

Freshman Eric May continued to add to his impressive season, scoring 18 points and grabbing a team best eight rebounds. May was 7 of 11 from the floor.

Jarryd Cole added 19 points and five rebounds on 8 of 10 shooting, while Aaron Fuller scored 12 in 25 minutes.

Iowa was 17 of 24 from the foul line while SCS attempted just nine free throws, making seven.

Brennan Cougill started the game and scored five points in just 12 minutes of action, and he did not have any personal fouls.

Iowa improved to 5-7 with the win.

i understand most hawkeye fans probably want this kid outta here…and maybe he should be. i don’t know about his history in high school, but i’m of the opinion that if this is only his second mistake, even though it was a boneheaded one, he should have the opportunity to work his way back into the program. i’ve been in a lot more trouble than him, but i was able to overcome it and stay out of trouble with the support of my family and friends. some people are just plain dumb, and if that’s the case he should be out, but if he shows that he can change his ways i think he should get another chance. but if he gets in trouble again it’s over.
