Search Pace Slows; Saturday Links

Credible news on the coaching search front has been tougher to come by in the last 24 hours…several of the same names getting rehashed and the like, but that has been most of what I have heard. I would say the chances of Iowa hiring a coach this coming week are about 60 percent, with the other 40 percent being after the Final Four has taken place.

Dayton’s Brian Gregory plays in the NIT Final Four on Wednesday; the title game for that event is Thursday. If Scott Drew of Baylor is a legit candidate in Gary Barta’s book, he could be done on Sunday as the Bears play Duke…then again, I would not be shocked to see them win that game. Drew would seem like the only legit candidate still in consideration of coaches still in the Big Dance. One possible exception is Tennessee Assistant Steve Forbes, who I consider to be a backburner thought for Barta and the search committee.

There were several tweets from St. Louis last night that Keno Davis’ name was resurfacing, but no one really placed much in that other than it was rumors swirling. Keno has come out and said that he is not interested in the job.

The longer this goes, the more the B.J. Armstrong notion remains in the game, in my opinion. I still think it’s unlikely, but if Iowa is really running into dead ends around every corner on this search, BJ is still willing to help the program from what I have been told.

If we hear anything we deem to be credible, we’ll pass it along over the weekend. Here are some Hawkeye related links from the world wide web to pass the time

even though B.J. has zero coaching experience, I’d be more excited to have him as coach than some of these other guys. On the other hand, if Iowa has some money to throw around, throw it at Scott Drew. Who’s to say he would be willing to even consider Iowa, but money has a way of persuading people. If Iowa hires a guy like Keno or Gregory, I won’t be excited one bit. I may have to accept the fact that a “mid major” coach is the only option for Iowa. What has this program come to???
