One year ago on July 13th, Iowa had nine verbal commits in its 2010 recruiting class. That class wound up being the ‘quickest work’ if you will, of the Ferentz era; the most commitments in the live well by just about every meaningful milestone. This year’s class will be larger in size, but it’s on pace with last year’s aggressive early commitment ‘schedule’.
Riley McMinn of Illinois is Iowa’s latest verbal commitment. He is a 6-7, 225-pound defensive end, an edge rush specialist. Rob Howe has a very good article & interview with McMinn that you can read right here.
According to Howe’s article and the Scout.com database, McMinn has offers from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, Illinois State, Central Michigan, SMU, Memphis, Indiana, Kansas and Boston College. Iowa, Kansas and Boston College made his final three.
Here is a link to Iowa’s commitment list for the Class of 2011.
Iowa will have north of 20 scholarships to award this year, and potentially somewhere near the limit of 25.
