Henry Krieger-Coble of Mt. Pleasant verbally committed to the Iowa Hawkeyes on Tuesday, according to several tweets and online reports, including this one from Marc Morehouse. Here is his Scout.com player profile.
The commitment first ‘broke’ on twitter, though not by name. Iowa assistant coach Eric Johnson sent out this tweet before 5:00pm central: “Just got a new member of our Hawkeye family.” That was followed by the official Iowa Football Twitter page saying: “Another commitment for the 2011 recruiting class!”
As I look at the future of online recruiting coverage, it’s going to be hard for sites that rely and thrive on breaking recruiting commitments to stay ahead of the Iowa coaches and official team twitter pages, even if those people cannot state the exact name of the prospect. But that’s a story for another day….
Back to Krieger-Coble…he is 6-4 and somewhere around 210 to 215 pounds. He has excellent hands and the Iowa staff believes he will round into a solid tight end. He received an offer from Iowa within the past two weeks, according to Rob Howe of HawkeyeInsider.com. From that point, it was just a matter of time before he committed to the Hawkeyes.
Not a bad move for a player that projects as a tight end; every starting tight end in the Kirk Ferentz era has made an NFL roster. He’s also related to former Iowa basketball player Jess Settles (cousins).
He also had a scholarship offer from Iowa State.
