The Iowa football program had some ‘hot phone lines’ on Wednesday, that according to Recruiting Coordinator Eric Johnson’s twitter account updates. Johnson let the Hawkeye Nation know that the Hawkeyes received two verbal commitments….and then later in the day, a third called the Hawkeyes to commit.
Johnson cannot specifically talk about recruits, so when Rob Howe of HawkeyeInsider.com tweeted that one of the commitments was Ray Hamilton of Iowa, that got the fans buzzing. Howe also has a quote from Hamilton on his commitment, linked here. Here is an updated story from Howe on Hamilton, one that sees the new Hawkeye quoting Rick Stanzi’s ‘Love it or Leave It’ line.
Hamilton was ranked 15th in the nation regardless of position in late May by The Sporting News, and he is a tight end from Strongsville, Ohio. Bucknuts.com, a site devoted to Ohio State, ranks Hamilton among the top 25 players in the Buckeye state…interesting.
Hamilton is obviously one of the best tight ends in the nation, and get a load of the schools that have offered him a scholarship: Iowa, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Stanford, Michigan, Pitt and West Virginia just to name a few.
He caught 22 passes last year in six games, but an elbow injury kept him off the field over the final few weeks.
Hamilton is the 6th known verbal commitment in the class of 2011, and as for #7? Well, I don’t know what order these call came in, but the seventh known commitment of the class is DE John Raymon of Eastern Pennsylvania. Howe has a story you can read on him, too, linked here. Howe’s story, a good one to read, indicates that Raymon has offers from Iowa, Purdue, Illinois, Maryland, West Virginia, North Carolina State and Temple.
As for the third player to commit to Iowa on 6/30? Still unconfirmed at 9:50pm central time.
There’s always tomorrow!
THURSDAY NOTE: Rob Howe tweeted late last night saying that due to information he has, he believes the third commit to be Florida prep QB Jacob Rudock. Click here to see his profile. Offers from Wisconsin, Colorado, Illinois and others…
FOLLOW UP NOTE: Rudock is the confirmed 3rd commitment, per this story
