The earliest we could clinch the Big Ten and a BCS (probably Rose) bowl berth would be November 14. There are four scenarios but the only likely one is us beating both Northwestern and Ohio State.

Will there be Rose Bowl parade and game ticket packages for Iowa Alumni that aren’t living in Iowa and can’t take advantage of the charter travel?

Woody,

The first record the B10 looks at to determine who goes to the Rose Bowl is the conference record. If Ohio State wins out, and Iowa wins the rest of its home games, then both teams would be 7-1 in conference play. Since Ohio State would own the head-to-head victory, it would win the first tiebreaker and go to the Rose Bowl. Non-conference records wouldn’t be counted unless the two top teams didn’t play each other (like Iowa and Ohio State in 2002-3) or if there is a three-way tie for first, with each team owning a victory over one of the other top teams, but not both. Rock-Paper-Scissors style.

I’m sad you can’t make something happen for your Chicago area Hawkeyes. I’ve hear many times how people here want to participate in your charters, but are unable to drive to any of those three locations for an early flight. Just isn’t feasible. Oh, well. Land package again……but not nearly as much fun. Thanks for all you do for your Iowa Hawks though! I really hope it’s Pasadena.

If Ohio State beats Iowa and has a 10/2 record and Iowa ends up with an 11/1 records, how does Ohio State go to the Rose Bowl. According to the B10 rules as I see them, the team with the best overall record goes. Please explain.

Tom, under your scenario, the Big Ten and Pac 10 champs will meet in the Rose, as neither league’s champion would play for the BCS title…as long as a Pac 10 or Big 10 champ is not 1 or 2, those teams are protected for the Rose Bowl.

Couldn’t this be a similar situation though?
Say NC game ends up being Bama/Florida vs Texas, couldn’t the same thing happen?
I guess I just don’t fully understand why Orange got 1st pick in 2003 and trumped the B10 rose bowl connection.

In 2002, Ohio State and Iowa tied for the Big Ten title, but since Ohio State was one of the top two rated teams, they went to the BCS. I think Miami was the #1 team that year, so the Orange had the first replacement pick, and they chose Iowa. The Rose was ticked about that.

That won’t be the case this year, as there will not be a #1 or #2 from the Big Ten in the final BCS poll unless its Iowa.

Jon,
Orange Bowl pulled us out of the 2003 Rose Bowl (against most Hawk fans’ desires) because the had the earlier selection and more money. (correct me if i’m wrong on the reason)
Is there a chance that if we are rose bowl qualified (win out, or only lose to OSU after they lose to PSU) that this could happen again?
I want the rose bowl regaurdless of money/ranking! Of course the NC game in the Rose Bowl would be nice too…
