Iowa Lands Juco OL Commit

Rob Howe of HawkeyeInsider.com is reporting that Juco offensive lineman Dan Heiar has committed to the Iowa football program.  Click here to view video of Heiar in action.

From the video, you can see a versatile player lining up at both right and left tackle.  He shows a good ability in run and pass blocking.  Straight up pass protection looked solid in these clips and he chipped down on a lineman and made it out to the second level to seal off a linebacker in several clips.  He showed some good arm extension, keeping defenders away from his core and his footwork looked decent.  He plays with his head up, which helps him on some seal back blocks from backside pursuing linemen and backers.

He is 6-5, 285-pounds and Scout.com reported he had offers from Iowa, Michigan State, Rutgers and more.  Here is a link to his Scout.com profile. He played at Iowa Western Community College after growing up in Goose Lake, Iowa.

He becomes the 15th known commitment for Iowa’s recruiting class of 2011 and he will have three years to play two.  Given that he is a junior college player, he can sign with Iowa this week and plans to enroll at Iowa for the Spring 2011 semester next month.  He will be able to take part in offseason workouts as well as spring practice.

Iowa returns five offensive linemen for next season that started at some point in time this season, so Heiar will compete with players that have some experience, but at worst the Hawkeyes have added depth to a crucial position on their team.
