WEEK TWO: IOWA AT IOWA STATE

No changes to the starting lineup from week one…I think it’s obvious there would have been a change at backup running back had Mika’il McCall not been injured. I also don’t think it’s going to be long before Jordan Bernstine breaks into the starting lineup

WEEK ONE: TENNESSEE TECH AT IOWA

A few thoughts…

This two deep has traditionally been the least revealing of the regular season two-deeps through the years. The two deep that comes on the Monday before the Iowa State game will be a much better guide. Iowa has no reason to tip their hand on personnel changes or availability for this game, and will not.

Matt Tobin shares the one line with Brandon Scherff at left guard next week, and Kirk Ferentz talked about him after Iowa’s open practice back on August 13th: “Since the day he got here he competes, he works hard, he has a lot of pride…if we were playing today or tomorrow, he would be the guy. I would not rule him out. He is working hard and he competes hard.”

Nolan MacMillan continues to recover from a ‘sports hernia’.

James White is listed as the backup, however I suspect we’ll see Mika’il McCall in that slot before long.

CJ Fiedorowicz shares the backup line with Zach Derby. This is good. Derby has impressed a lot of people, and CJ Fed needs to realize he has to give it his all otherwise he won’t plays as much as perhaps he thinks he should.

Carl Davis is listed as a backup DT…he has missed some practice time with an injury. Daniel, Daniels, Alvis, Nardo, Davis and Binns are going to play this year..we’ll see how far out that rotation reaches after that.

Jordan Bernstine is backing up Prater at one corner, with Hyde as the backup at the other corner…BJ Lowery likely did injure himself, as was rumored, or he would have made the sheet.
