More Kentucky Basketball Controversy

oUK's prized big man recruit Enes Kanter is being accused of accepting about $100,000 to play professionally in Europe before coming to the US. I'm actually starting to be amused by Coach Calipari.

I don't know how reliable the source of this story is, his Turkish team's GM is the one saying he took money and he has a lot to gain if he's ruled ineligible. If he can't play in the NCAA this year, he also won't be able to play in the NBA since he's not old enough, he will probably play in Europe and his Turkish team will get a nice transfer fee. Kind of sounds like the GM is just mad at how Kanter left and wants to screw him over.

That's exactly what a good defense attorney would try and do.....don't look at my client, look at those greedy bastards that are trying to make money off of him if he can't play college ball..

The kid was paid $6500 per month and they are trying to equate that to a scholarship to play at a private school in the US? Come on.

Amateur athletics should be amateur. I always will favor a system that says you can't get paid a dime to play a sport, any sport, or you lose your amateur status. This includes basketball players getting paid to play baseball or any other sport like skiing, swimming, badminton, etc. They need to take the high school scholarships away too.

Even if he didn't get money, if his teammates did then he isn't eligible (see Lucca Staiger).

They've made changes to that rule recently. The NCAA knew his teammates had been paid and he was still expected to be eligible right away.
