Macari Brooks
Gave a verbal to DePaul today. I really hope we ceased recruiting him and he didn't choose a mid-major over us. That would be yet another kick in the balls. Man, this program needs some good news and fast.

Re: Macari Brooks
I guess I have never considered Depaul a "mid-major". But I agree it would be nice to get some good news on the recruiting front. Hopefully it is coming soon.

Not in terms of conference membership per se, but I was speaking more in terms of talent, history, prestige, etc. They were arguably worse than we were last year, and that's saying a lot.

DePaul is in the Big East, has a new coach, and Brooks is a local kid. Brooks is a academic question mark,possibly,also....just saying.

+1. Youth is wasted on the young.

Re: Macari Brooks
From what I understand, Coach McCaffery would have had a difficult time getting him to qualify academically for Iowa, so we moved on. But I am also very anxious to get some good news. Seems as though everyone else is signing recruits and we are still waiting for decisions. Not discouraged, just antsy.

I completely agree with this. It seems to be getting very late in the game right now to not have any recruits ready to jump on board. This staff has had a long enough time to get someone to commit here by now.

I think we all know they are waiting on Olgesby to finish his visits to Minny,Ill,and ASU ...the next three weekends, and he will decide in the first two weeks of October...that is part of the process and not much you can do about that. I suspect many recruits are taking campus visits in Sept and we are waiting to hear from other also.
I do fear that if Oglesby does not fall our way that it could be a real struggle in the PR dept. I am not paniced, just anxious.

I've read on other teams boards that he is Iowa's to lose. I cringe at the thought of him in Goofy or Illannoy uni.

He may be more than an academic liability. One of his social networking sites has pics of him and a large group of Bloods throwing up gang signs. Maybe Fran was aware of this and decided he's not the type of student athlete we need at Iowa no matter his skill level. Either way, I trust Fran and hope we sign some quality guys soon. How many schollies do you think he'll use for the '11 class?

I guess I am anxious over worried as well. And from TOS Brooks gave his transcripts here and he wouldn't have been able to get in here.

IAJay,
I would've guessed that DePaul had higher standards for admittance than Iowa.

If you take a look at the basketball program and how many players have issues then you wouldn't think that. DePaul has had many players leave that would not have been eligible the next season.
Wilson Chandler and Quinton Richardson are just a couple that were able to go to the NBA, there are many that just faded into nothingness.
As far as Brooks, if he is an academic question mark, then I don't want him at Iowa anyway. Iowa needs no more black-eyes in that respect.
