Re: Thoughts on the hawks...

1) Iowa didn't shoot well enough to beat a good team.
2) Iowa didn't rebound well enough to beat a good team.
3) Iowa didn't defend well enough to beat a good team
4) Iowa didn't hustle enough to beat a good team.

Have to disagree with you on a couple points here, Stormin. Gibbs is more than a slight improvement vs May in my mind. I'd take him over May in a heartbeat. He brings more to the table than May against good competition. Sure, May looks solid against the crap teams; but whenever he faces decent competition. his weaknesses are exposed. He can't dribble well and has a slow first step. This makes him a non-factor most of the time in our offense because solid defenders can completely shut him down. Our offense really stagnates when he touches the ball in the half-court. Plus, I don't see his defense making up for this on any sort of consistent basis. It looks like he should be a good defender, but I just don't see it enough.

Also, I don't see McDermott vs Basabe being the same difference as Gatens vs Manigat. McDermott's game is much more well-rounded than Basabe's on offense and he consistently puts up better effort on the glass and defensively. McDermott would be our best player by a wide margin. Shoot, I think he'd be a top 10 player in the B1G. He might even sneak into the top 5. Right there with Hummel after Sullinger, Taylor, Mbakwe, Green.

Creighton played a great game. Let's hope Iowa's performance is attributable to everyone having an off-night. Too early to tell one way or the other. It sure didn't look like the same team that beat Purdue at the end of last season.

The game started slipping and we just folded. Thankfully it's early and we still have a favorable non-conference schedule to get the lineup figured out.
wow. I was at the game. Looked like Jr high kids (Iowa) playing against the high school varsity. Iowa does not have better talent at any position than Creighton.

Who on Iowa's team would have started for Creighton?

They are a better TEAM with only marginally better talent from 1-5. They have players that fit every position from the PG to the C position. We have a very good PG, marginal wings and a terrible, TERRIBLE C position.
I won't argue that one bit.

Gatens and Cartwright.

I was at the game. The problem was many of our shots were contested, most of theirs weren't. Even the shots we had that weren't contested weren't going down. We also missed free throws in the first half when Creighton started pulling away which might have kept us in the ballgame. Once they pulled away we got demoralized most likely and it all snowballed from there.

Re: Thoughts on the hawks...

my thoughts are that the position 1,2, and 3, go to Iowa the 4 & 5 clearly goes to Creighton, this is where Iowa lost the game on the inside, Basabe is a 4 in a 3's body, he is limited in shooting range, Archie is giving all he has, but would not start for another team,
I really like the effort he gives, there is no quit in the kid, i just wish Basabe would give the same effort this year
next year this will change Woodbury will be the mismatch at 7'1, Meyer at 6'10 will also present problems, but they too will go thru the growing pains of youth, White with a year of maturing and growth will also be a difference maker and a mismatch problem, i still feel Olaseni will make a difference just on height alone

Re: Thoughts on the hawks...

Good observations. I would also add that we need to close out on guys after they make a couple of shots. Nothing dirty, just an assist to the floor and maybe even 3 free throws if necessary. Oglesby made what, maybe two shots, before Creighton sent him to the floor on the next couple? We allow guys to unpack a lunch before we get a hand in their face.
