Gatens
13 pts in 35 minutes of playing time, Oglesbe 14 pts 20 minutes.Basabe 2pts in 17 minutes, sometime you have to make a choice on how many minutes a player gets

Re: Gatens
I wouldn't be talking about sitting Gatens. When you're the only guy who really shows up on offense, you're going to have trouble scoring efficiently. Matt played well today.

You sir, are a clonebag, attempting to bring us down! This will not be permitted nor tolerated. RELEASE THE KRAKEN!!!!!!

Yep, there was nothing wrong with his effort.

Re: Gatens
no way am i impling he be benched, but i am implying that you need to go with who's hot, McCabe gave more effort than Basabe as Basabe looks to be going thru the motions, Gatens should have sat and then put back in after he settled down, May was out of it today, maybe sitting them to calm them down and/or inspiring better play woud have made for a better game

Re: Gatens
Yeah, I've had a lot of questions about Gatens over the years, but today if we didn't have him we'd have lost by 40. He made several shots on his own. On a team of turds he was the one floater that stood out today.

HANK: Oh. Oh, yeah, I hate soccer. Yes.

Who would you put in for Gatens??? When he sat while BC was in locker room we looked like a bunch of guys lost at sea.

There is nothing ever wrong with his effort. He may be off every now and then but the effort is always there. That you can count on with him.

Re: Gatens
So in other words Matt shouldn't have been benched but he should've been made to sit on the bench.

Re: Gatens
Gatens gave the most consistent effort out there of any player...and you can say that about Matt for most every game he's played at Iowa.
So many people harp on him for what he isn't and lose sight of appreciating him for what he is. It's not his fault he's basically been on three teams where he was the primary option. He should never have been in that situation.

Re: Gatens
Oglesbe did pretty good shooting, sometime you need a spark to get things rolling, and he does just that with his ability to hit the 3, kinda like Jeff Moe did when he came in

Yep, the emphasis in my post was on"his" not on "effort" just to clarify.

Re: Gatens
Well said JD. I have been critical of Matt as much as anyone but he always gives 110% and that was VERY evident today. Every time he didn't shoot in the first half I was p!ssed because seemed like he was one of few that came to play.
We will improve, MG will have a great senior season. But boy did today hurt.

Re: Gatens
not sure how to explain this so you can understand
there are times when you need a shooter to stop a run by the other team,
in this case Oglesbe is this type shooter, and as i said sometimes that is good way to get something going
in this game nobody stepped up to give that spark, Gatens needed help and the others didn't give it, putting Oglesbe in for Gatens would have allowed him to catch his breath and given the team a boost
i can't make it any plainer than that
you either see that or are just trying to make a arguement out of this
