Fran's opening reply he stated:

"It was disappointing, because I mean, defensively tonight, that's about as bad as you can play. I can't ‑‑ and I'm not blaming my players, at all. And we have got to do a better job. We did not play good defense tonight.:

I'm pretty sure he put the player's effort on the player...

Iowa played defense for 30 secs per possession. I can't tell you how many times the shot clock was at or below 5 secs.

Re: I put this loss on coach

The bottom line is we have seen how well (and how poor) this team can play ... And with the number of players who DO have experience it is hard to understand how a loss like this one creeps in ... Fran can only do so much ... Ultimately it comes down to the players executing the things they were taught ... But naturally, it will also lead fans to ask what could we have done differently from a coaching perspective ... One of the downfalls of having a program in transition ... You get sucked in after a big win and start to envision grandiose results ... and then a loss at home to Nebraska quickly brings you back to keeping your feet on the ground ... I am sure Fran and staff are left scratching their heads more than any of us ...

It's OK to say we really aren't any good. Have we made progress? Yes. Are we going to have a winning record? IMO no. I'd be happy with win #12 at this point.

The team definitely has limitations, in rebounding and a second scoring threat inside beyond McCabe, among others. Those 2 being the most prevalent last night. When they surface, it is hard for them to win. Basabe needs to get his act together, pronto. I wouldn't say they aren't any good, but they need to play at or near peak to win. They don't have the horses to have an off night and still scrape out a win.

What did Nebraska score? 80? Something obscene like that. I doubt that they have scored 80 all year. Nebraska played to Iowa's tempo the whole game. They just made their shots.

As long as teams are cold from 3 PT range we're good. The couple of big wins we had were against teams that were ice cold. If we are going to be better next year, we have to learn how to shut down the 3 ball.

I'm going to blame it on the Green and Red Telletubbies for not showing up to the game.

I keep seeing this stated and it's just not true. Nebraska was 1-12 when taking a shot in the last 6 seconds of the shot clock. It was mentioned numerous times that they were 0-11 then they hit one big shot toward the end. It wasn't us getting beat really late in the shot clock that hurt us. It was us getting beat earlier. Over-rotating. Leaving Richardson so a ball rotation gives him a wide open 3. Playing their guards too far out on the perimeter and getting too high to allow the drive. Some credit has to go to Nebraska too. They hit some tough shots with guys in their face late in the game.

I wonder how many of their TWELVE offensive rebounds came after these 11 misses though. That's what killed, anytime you give a team that many second looks it's going to bite you in the hind end.

Yes, great point. Offensive rebounds definitely hurt us.
