What past Iowa player would MOST help this years team?
I'm going with Greg Brunner. A hustler, dive on the floor type of guy. Not the tallest, but a heck of a defensive player and rebounder. No one would drive to the hoop if Brunner was in their way! We don't need more scoring, just better defense. A bruiser!

Brunner would be a good choice. I would like Reggie Evans and his 12+ boards a game.

This question is rigged. You could ask this every year, regardless of circumstance, and the answer would always be the same: Ronnie Lester. The best player in the history of Iowa basketball.

Acie Earl - that dude blocked every shot in the paint.

Re: What past Iowa player would MOST help this years team?
I never got to see Lester play, but everyone says he was amazing.
Based on the players I have seen play, I'd go with B.J. Point guard is where the game is won, and B.J. is the best I have seen play at Iowa.
Some even thought he should get the coaching gig. But that talk was dismissed...

Re: What past Iowa player would MOST help this years team?
There are a ton of players that could help us this year. Which is sad.
Lester, Marble, BJ, Acie Earl, Lohaus, Settles, Bowen, Gamble, Recker, Boyle, Woolridge et al.
Where we are most deficient on this team is the C position followed closely by the PG position. If we had Brad Lohaus then we would be significantly better. If we had Lohaus and Armstrong this team would be in the NCAA tournament with a high seed.
Interestingly enough we have two 4* players that are coming in to fill both of those spots. Interesting.

Lets make sure we are talking about the Acie Earl of the early 90's and not the Acie Earl of today. He's averaging about 4 points and 4 boards in the NL Men's League (B division) and has had his shot blocked (twice, both by a 5-6 white dude) more than he's blocked anyone elses (zero).

I am going with Acie as well. This team is missing more than anything a good Center. Stokes is in the mix too but think with Acie shot blocking ability he would be the better pick up for this team.

If you are going with a center, I'd go Earl before Lohaus. Lohaus wasn't nearly the defensive presence that Earl was.

Stokes could play a little, couldn't he? One of the first Hawkeyes I remember.

Greg Stokes. We need a post presence. He could defend, rebound, and score.

Re: What past Iowa player would MOST help this years team?
Any of the great post players. Earl, Stokes, Lohaus, Street, Evans, Brunner, etc. Any one of those guys would make a tremendous impact on this team, great than any addition at point guard. Lester was amazing (so I'm told), but our biggest problem is in the paint.
