why the slow down with a lead

There is one thing that has left me scratching my head after a few of Iowa's wins this year. Why does fran slow the pace of the game after we build a lead. Why not do what indiana did to us keep pushing. I never understood why coaches, in any sport, change what is helping them build the lead. Once it is in the bag don't take the foot off the throat.

Anyone else notice the slow down in pace? Maybe it is just me. All and all happy with what Fran has been able to do in 2 years with no thugs.

We didn't take our foot of the gas, we still ran plenty in the 2nd half. The difference was if we didn't get a shot in the initial break we were much more deliberate in the half court offense and rightly so. With the kind of lead we had the clock was a huge asset for us and we used it well. Yes PSU closed the gap but the game was never in any danger of being lost.

Other than maybe the last 90 seconds of the game, I have a hard time believing that Fran told them to slow down. I think it has more to do with the fact that we're dealing with 18-19 year olds whose intensity and concentration may slip a little when they see the double digit lead.

this is true because fran still seemed a little "irritated" on the sidelines even late in the game.
