Sounds to me like he's saying "stop using age as an excuse and start showing some commitment to the team"...OR he's saying "noone likes this system"...

Not sure whats so interesting about it... All you have is a player who doesn't want to play the "inexperienced" excuse. He's telling his team they are old enough to win now, and if they buy in and work together they can. I'm not sure sure how you can see anything negative in what he said.

Pat Harty is not looking to trap or pot-stir here. The context is clear...cole was asked about the youth excuse and he is tired of hearing it...not surprising since he himself only has 25 more Big Ten games left in his career...he is impatient and I do not blame him.

As for the ''not buying into the system'' comment...that could mean a lot of things..but I do think he wants to avoid saying the obvious...Iowa's talent is not yet good enough to challenge for a Big Ten upper division finish.

That isn't what he said. He said it was about "buying into the system", not that guys weren't doing it. The context is never clear when you don't know what the question was or if Harty cherry-picked the quotes he knew would get the most reaction.

I'm not flat out saying that Harty did either or both of those things, but it's impossible to know. Pat Harty is an opinion columnist; his job is to stir the pot.

Interesting means interesting. He said his career is comming to an end and he wants to start winning now, I'm not sure that's interesting.... He also sent a message to his teamates that said forget about everyone telling you you can't win because you are too young/inexperienced, play good ball and we can win. Not much interesting there either.

Really, what was Cole supposed to say? We either are going to bash Lick because "we're not really that young", or we're going to bash Lick and the team for accepting the youth/inexperience excuse. No athlete who has an ounce of pride is going to make excuses, and Cole had two choices: say what he said, or say "yeah, we are really young, and it's hurt us at times". Which would we prefer the players to believe?
