In our dreams only...but again, maybe Mrs. Lickliter will sell the house and tell Todd she is moving back to Indiana, and maybe he doesn't know how to cook and that will be the deciding factor?

I am 99.9% positive we will see Lickliter sitting on our bench again next year. I hope for a change, but I certainly don't expect it. Barta sounded awfully committed to Lickliter in recent articles from a few weeks back. He has been pretty quiet lately though...

If enough people with influence (big $$$ donors, etc.) get together and put the heat on Barta, then who knows. Anything might be possible.

I would hope that Lick has a certain amount of pride and realize it just ain't working out at Iowa. Sometimes money is not the be all, end all for truly honorable men.

Can you imagine what it must feel like knowing most fans do not support you and the team is not responding with the passion necessary to turn the program around.

Pretty sad when $1 hotdogs and other reduced concessions are dragged out to entice "fans" to come out and watch the Hawkeyes. Sad indeed.

And even then you can't fill the shed.

Short of health concerns (and I'm not saying that's not a possibility), Lick has no incentive to step down and won't. He can always argue that he is just starting to get the players to run his system and he needs another year, if not two. Whether or not the fan base is ready to accept that, it preserves his negotiating position for a possible buyout or termination in a year and ultimately another position down the road.

I fully expect he will given at least one more year. If there's no improvement next season, look for Lick to voluntarily look to move on, ala Mr. Alford.

Alford only moved on because he had another decent well paying job lined up. I dont see Lick being able to pull that off

Re: Anyone else think Lick is coaching his last game for Iowa Thursday?

A number of comments in the DSM register article kinda stuck with me:
Offense puts greatest amount of stress on a defense, IF RUN WELL. As if to say these guys can't seem to get it. These are his guys!!! 3 years!!
Butler seems to be good with it. You aren't at Butler. As if Butler is the model for all that college basketball is and should be. Anyone else tired of hearing about Butler???
Players love it.....WTF??? Is that why the hawkeye players look like they are having so much fun??? Thats why so many have transffered away from it? Big time recruits are calling Lick to come play this system.
Transistion offense??? When? Ever?
Don't want to dumb it down. You pompous *****. We are soooo blessed to have this basketball genius as our coach...we just dont understand. As if e is saying, Sit down and shut up!!!
Why we "chose" them to come play for ME!!! See above.
Sorry but he seems very arrogant, stubborn. We are not supposed to question the great OZ.
Maybe I am reading too much into this article but tese were my first reactions.

I don't know if Lick will turn it around or not but nobody should be fired for having their worst day at work. The best employee in the world is going to have his worst day sometime...so everyone in the world should be fired?

And one more quick question, is the basketball team playing in Kinnick next year? That'll be some cold nights..
This is not the case of one or day bad days on the job ... This is three years of someone having bad DAYS on the job. And, a coach who is bringing home in excess of $1 million a year ... So yeah, if he is not performing, he should be fired ...

I think Lick gets one more year. I hate to say it ... Iowa could find the money to buy him out ... This one falls directly on the shoulders of Barta.

Lickliter will eventually leave iowa as our worst basketball coach ever.

Re: Anyone else think Lick is coaching his last game for Iowa Thursday?

Lick internalizes the stress, I think, and it probably contributed to his health issues.
Life is short,lick....do the right thing...take a negotitated buyout that gets you to 5 million over your 3 years at iowa, and grab a lower stress coaching job at a small college where your approach is embraced. Big time college bb is a different sport than small college ball. At Loras,he would do fine.

Re: Anyone else think Lick is coaching his last game for Iowa Thursday?

I really want Lick to be successful at Iowa. I think he's going to be here next year, and want him to turn this ship around. Please, God, let it be better than this year.

However...

With Pollard sticking behind McDermott, that means that ISU won't be looking for a new coach. That would make it easier for Barta to find someone, because we wouldn't be going to the same watering hole as ISU.

We have the money for a buyout this year. ISU doesn't, but next year they might have to make a change, regardless of their finances.

This is the year to make a change. Or write Lick a life-long contract.

I think, based upon his last interview, he may be leaving - involuntarily. Just a gut feeling.
