ESPN: Should PSU stay in B1G or go to ACC?

Hawk fans what is this about? I would see no reason why anyone would want to leave the Big 10.

They would be fools to leave.

So they think it would be a good idea to split a smaller pie more ways.

Sure, that's a brilliant move

More proof that ESPN hates the big ten.

This is an absolutely ridiculous notion. It was ridiculous when it surfaced and it's equally as ridiculous now.

I can't believe that anyone would give it even a moment of credible thought. Just stupid. I like Rittenberg but spending time on that topic is a waste of time and brain power.

No one who matters has given this any thought at all.

Re: ESPN: Should PSU stay in B1G or go to ACC?

PSU has been pretty clear that they want the Big10 to pick-up an expansion school near them ... Pitt, Rutgers, Maryland, Syracuse, West Virginia

Now that Pitt and Cuse are joining the ACC, and I think it unlikely that UMD would leave and pay the $20M exit fee, PSU sees their dream of a local rival fading. I could see them being upset and at least listening to the ACC.

The ACC has nothing to sell them except a huge annual pay cut. Why would they listen?

Paranoia! Paterno brought this up over a week ago.

Paterno applauds Pitt's move to ACC

Somehow JoePa saying it's a good move for Pitt = it's a good move for PSU

???

Because PSU is tired of getting their a$$ kicked by Iowa. They've had enough, they want out.

While I think JoePA has had a brilliant career, I also think that PSU will be really good again, when JoePa leaves as head coach.

Maybe they envision better on the field results in football if they switch leagues. Instead of being up there with Michigan and OSU, they've been with Wisconsin and Iowa over the last 20 years.

But this whole thing with ESPN is getting real tiresome real fast. They're just throwing anything out there at this point in the hopes of getting attention. And encouraging the likes of a PSU to move from a conference they want to ignore (Big Ten) in favor of one that they think they have more control of (ACC)? That sounds right up ESPN's alley these days.

Personally if they would want to leave I say let them. Unlike the Big 12 trying to expand the Big Ten would have their pick of schools to replace them.

Obviously, you didn't read the article.

"Things are changing and you're not really sure what's going to happen," Paterno said. "I don't know where we're going to end up. There might be even some speculation that Penn State maybe ought to get into something different, or we ought to try to go out and get some people from the East to come into the Big Ten."

Penn State President Graham Spanier quickly addressed the speculation. “The Big Ten does not contemplate a change and feels very secure in its current arrangement; this applies to all 12 of our members, including Penn State.”

Spanier addressed this issue because of comments made by Joe Paterno during his Tuesday teleconference where he mentioned that the move was good for both schools and said “There might even be some speculation that Penn State maybe ought to get into something different, or we ought to try to go out and get some people from the East to come into the Big Ten.”

A move to the ACC would be very close to admitting defeat. Nobody thinks that the ACC is nearly as good of a football conference as the Big Ten, and their additions of Pitt and Syracuse do nothing to improve that notion.

Based on Big Ten requirements sans Nebraska, the Big 10 would have a more limited selection of schools than most ,wouldn't they?
