Everything related to either team has an effect on the spread.

When Joe retires this week, the spread will be pulled off the board.

i've never bet a single game, but you would think it would have to right? I can't imagine this hasn't been a distraction for the team to say the least...I think Nebby wins...

I thought most places had taken it off the board, which makes sense. I haven't checked for myself, but that's what I've been hearing.

Football is the least important thing at Penn State right now. I don't care about the spread and I hope they took it down. To bet on it seems wrong at this point.

I understand the sentiment, and if I was a PSU fan, I would be ashamed to show up and display any type of enthusiasm for my school. Nonetheless, the taint of this should not guilt the Vegas sportsbooks (if they have the capacity for guilt) into taking down the line. There are obviously times when they feel the line is compromised and they use their professional discretion to take it down. But I don't think it is "wrong" to take bets on this game.

The children Sandusky harmed have undoubtedly been experiencing pain and anguish for at least the past ~15 years, and in that time, Paterno has hoisted the Big Ten Title trophy a few times, been to Pasadena, and received cheers everywhere he has gone all the while knowing about Sandusky's atrocities. That is wrong. Allowing unrelated private parties to wager their own money on how his team has taken the news doesn't harm anyone as long as it is presented as just another game on the board.

It's still on the board as of right now.

All valid points. I like everyone else am shocked and disgusted by this story. It's really hard for me to think about the game from a football perspective (maybe because I have two young boys?), but I'm sure there are people that can and will.

You are 100% correct. It is hard to think that that game means ANYTHING, and really it doesn't. None of them do in the grand scheme, they're just something artificial to do and get excited for as we live our lives. I don't think cancelling it would be a terrible idea. I wouldn't disagree if Vegas did take down the line. But, as long as people will be pouring concession money into PSU, I don't think bookies 2,000 miles away should have to shut down.

I think literally just about everybody who has heard about this is shocked and disgusted in some way (even the JoePa apologists in denial have to be disgusted at Sandusky at least). I hate to say this, but during the three hours in which our games are played on Saturday, children somewhere in the nation/world will be getting victimized. It breaks the heart, but literally all you can do is protect your own children and any other children you come across who might be in danger. My stomach, and the stomachs of the bettors, turn as much as most everyone's does at this news. But, on Saturday, they will place their bets and we will cheer for the Hawks, and we can do no more unless we want to stop society's day-to-day function to assemble a worldwide pederast hunt.

I apologize if I was trying to get too deep there, but I did also use the word "pederast."

I think this reflects how much control Vegas thinks JoePa had during games ... effectively zero
