For those of you with kids:

How do you talk to your kids about what happened?

Do you talk to your kids about abuse?

Why are your kids asking? I would say that some adults made some irresponsible decisions that have affected a lot of people in a bad way. Then say dont worry the bad people are going to timeout

I have a 12 year old son. We have been talking about it a lot the last few days. We have talked about it before, but I stressed what are appropriate situations with adults and what are not, and that if he feels uncomfortable at all that he should go with his gut and get out of the situation. And that if someone ever does try something or do something he shouldn't be embarrassed and he should tell someone in authority as soon as possible.

Of course after this fiasco, the ones in authority are the ones that let the victims down the most.

No my kid is too young. But I imagine that he'll go to scout camps, football camps etc. I think that my parents didn't have to worry about this kind of stuff (maybe they did worry and I didn't know) but we live in a different world now.
I think in general I'd say, no one has a right to do things that you don't want them to do and if any tells you differently let me know and I'll handle it.

You and I will be there for our kids, it sounded like these poor kids had no one to protect them. Isn't Paterno italian for father?

We live in a different world but dont think this activity didnt happen long ago. Horrible things have been going on to children for centurys!

Yep, I think it means fatherly. Ironic, huh? And trash like Sandusky always pick out the kids from broken homes because they know there is less chance of them telling someone or having someone there for them.

True, hopefully We (society) can talk about it and let kids know that there are bad people out there and that it's not the victim's fault.

Your kids need to know this stuff so a) they can recognize what is inappropriate behavior and b) so they can articulate what happened if someone does try to molest them

My kids are young, but if they're old enough to hear about it on tv and in the news then you have a real, but challenging conversation with them. As we all know, it does no one any good to keep this stuff in the dark.
