Should Penn State accept bowl bid

Yes
No
Yes: Give the money from the bowl game to victims.

Dan Patrick this morning said Penn State shouldn't accept a bowl bid this year if offered. What do you guys think.

I think there's too much money To deny if they do not accept. Same goes to the bowls if they do not offer them. I think it sucks how the players have to suffer cause of all this.

I feel bad for the players if they decline. But will a bowl even want them? Will the sponsors of the bowl want them? I doubt it. No one will be jumping at Penn St.

Re: Should Penn State accept bowl bid

I can go either way on this. The players are not at fault here but the way some of their fans & students have been acting it makes me sick every time I hear them chant "We Are Penn State" as I hear them chanting something else that I won't repeat. I really do not like seeing them associated in any way with the Big Ten.

Re: Should Penn State accept bowl bid

Bradley has already said that they'll accept a bowl invitation.

They shouldn't get an invite in the first place.

If they qualify they should get invited and they should accept. Bowls would absolutely love to get Penn State this year. The bowl game will get 4 times the amount of attention it would otherwise receive.

I hate to say this but you are probably right and I have been thinking the same thing. One of those low end bowls will take Penn State just for the attention and it would still get good ratings.

Re: Should Penn State accept bowl bid

I see the kids playing at Penn State as victims in this horrible mess, too. Not remotely on the same level as the real victims, but victims none the less.

Why make it worse for them by not accepting a bowl bid? I'm sure they'll get an invite, but I can't imagine that a sponsor would want them, and the cloud that hangs over them, associated with their bowl.

I don't think it's going to be a low end bowl either. I think Outback or Capital One.

Are the top bowls obligated to taking these teams based on the amount of wins they have? The Big Ten used to have a rule where the bowls could not select a team that had 2 fewer wins than someone else. I know the lower bowls can take whoever they want but is that rule still in effect for the bigger bowls? If that is the case then I can see the Outback being forced to take Penn State if they had 2 more wins than the other teams remaining. Otherwise I think they will take a pass and go for a Ohio State, Nebraska, and even Iowa over PSU.

Re: Should Penn State accept bowl bid

Tough call here but I think they should accept. It likely will be a higher tier bowl; strongly doubt any bowl turns them down because of this scandal, although they should out of consideration for the victims. If there's a way the university can give the payout to a fund either for the victims or to local charities who work with sexual abuse victim, I think it should.

I add the italicized caveat because there may be issues about whether bowl proceeds could or should be intertwined with potential damages to Sundusky's victims, which may be paid from other funds and likely under guidelines set by the courts, insurers and the lawyers.

Re: Should Penn State accept bowl bid

How'd you like to be the bowl that has to offer them an invite?

Uh, Capital One Kids' Day will be suspended this year...

And the trophy has been changed. Thank God. AWKWARD!

You don't get it. 4 times the attention. Bowls aren't going to be forced to offer Penn State. They'll be fighting over who gets Penn State.

That literally made me shoot snot out of my nose onto my monitor screen.

If I can't get it off (again, no pun intended) I'm sending you the bill to replace it.

Being forced to invite Pedo State to your bowl game ain't playing to win, Bri.
