There is still a Big Ten Championship
Today is a new week in Iowa City. The stands on Melrose have been taken down, the fans from out of town have gone home and the parking lots have cleared of the faithful who bleed black and gold.
To some, there is still a sting in the air of the loss our Hawkeyes suffered just a few days ago. To others there is still hope of another win in Iowa City this weekend to clear the air.
It all comes down to, There is still a Big Ten Championship on the line.
With Michigan State still undefeated and coming to Iowa City for a Blackout game, there leaves reasonable doubt in my mind that there isn't any one team that has captured that title yet.
The Iowa Hawkeyes in my eyes are the one team that stands in the way for MSU. With Iowa, Minnesota, Purdue and Penn State left on their schedule one could easily assume that Michigan State would win out and clench the Big Ten Title by going to the Rose Bowl and even quite possibly earn a spot to the National Title game.
Coming into week nine of college football. Iowa plays undefeated MSU at home, coming off a week eight heartbreak loss.
Iowa with Michigan State, Indiana, Northwestern, Ohio State and Minnesota left on the schedule could slide into a place where they are a major contender for the Big Ten Championship having, Michigan State and Ohio State both at home.
So what is left to do?
Each week Ricky Stanzi leads his team onto that field hand and hand while the fans scream and cheer to 'Back in Black'. The coaches, the team, the fans all know their place and each week we will still do our jobs. Keep your eye on the prize Hawk fans, you don't want to miss any of this.
This weekend. Iowa City will be Iowa City. The fans will come from miles around, wearing black and gold. They will pile into their weekly parking spots, bring their tailgating gear. The stands on Melrose will sell their gear and their food, the students will play their drinking games. Our Players will go to school this week and prepare for a win like they do every week, our coaches will keep them in check. What will you be doing?
Over 70,000 fans will pack the stands with a Big Ten Championship in the back of their minds and in their hearts. Win our lose, we are still Hawkeyes... The Coaches are still people who do their jobs. The Players are still young men giving their best every week to bring a W to Iowa and their loyal fans.

Hawkitychick80,
you took the words right out of my mouth, only much more elequently than I ever could. If I could survive 19 consecutive losing seasons before Hayden brought us out of the dark, I can weather a painful loss to bucky badger. I'll be there next week in my seats cheering as loudly as I can when the swarm hits the field. Go Hawks!! Beat Sparty!!Posted 10-25-2010 at 06:40 PM by Puttman
