Added ISU Thread

Being at the game last night I thought the Clone did OK but agree that the defense they went against will be nothing like the Hawks.

However I got very sick of hearing the announcer saying, "It's another Cyclone...1st Down".

I decided what we should do, providing our D is as stiff as I think it is, is on every 4th down situation say, "It's another Cyclone...4th down."

By the way the 5 guys I was with see the score next week in favor of the clones. something like 24-20. No one wanted to place any wagers so that say alot.

While I agree the NIU defense is not as good as Iowa's will be, it is a respectable unit. they did return all of their starters from a defense that ranked 30th in both total defense and scoring defense.

I think NIU came out flat. They got some bad breaks made some mistakes. After ISU ran up 17 points they stiffened up but by the end of the game they were tired. And considering they were down by 2 scores early they held ISU to 265 yds passing, 138yds total team rushing. Take away the 63 yard play and it wasn't a good opening day stat wise for ISU.

NIU has a better D than ISU. NIU outgained ISU on the ground. And that was against a team that was playing catchup and couldn't complete a pass.

Correct me if I am wrong but did I see the ISU PLAYERS participating in this "another Cyclone 1st down" chant? Really, players participating in crowd chants? Um, ok.

You have to remember who NIU plays against. I'm not sold on AA. I think he struggles against Iowa, w/ Clayborn & company up in his grill ALL day. Seriously, AC is dominant and will demand double-teams to ensure AA is not running for his life. That leaves the opportunity for the rest of the DL to have a big day. I definitely don't see Robinson having near the day against us that he did yesterday. He's really not that explosive, and we all know hard it is to run on Iowa.

I was thinking the same thing last night after seeing his 2nd pick what he will do when he receives actual pressure(see last year's game). But, we'll see. Robinson finished with 97 yards and I think 68 of them were on one play. I thought they played ok for a first game but I think it came down to qb experience and NIU's qb didn't seem to have a clue.

You are correct! some players did participate but most did not. I got so sick of it I nearly puked. All in all the fans were respectful to me. Mark Pierson "WHO" kept introducing me as Jon's Dad to everyone that came around, as did a neighbor of mine, and I did find a number of Hawk fans.

Alot of the clones talked about beating the Hawks around me in the stands where no one knew me. Only fans decked out in black and gold were getting it. Go home you scum bags would be the only thing I can print on here...you get the point.

Again I was treated well in all cases...nothing worse than supporting their team. I was actually surprised. Did have one clone fan behind me, female, that had a very interesting vocabulary.. must have lived with a bunch of sailors for some time.

Go Hawks get one tomorrow then kick some cyclone butt next week.

I got my fill of "It's another Golden Gopher 1st down" about 6 years ago in the dome. Everytime I hear that anywhere i cringe.

Re: Added ISU Thread

ISUs Oline has to be better next game. Plainj and simple. If they aren't it will be a long day. That really worries me because I honestly thought they would be the most solid position group we have. Hopefully this is a case of needing a game to gel. The defense was OK, but they have to create more pressure. I think getting Sims back will help in that regard. We may be able to bring a LB more often with him back there. His run support was also sorely missed.

I don't think a feel any different about the game next week. If we win, it will be a dogfight. If AA plays like last year the result will be worse. He needs to go out and win this game IMO. I think it hinges on him.

Re: Added ISU Thread

We haven't even played a down this year and I'm not in the slightest scared of ISU. Let's be honest here, we smacked ISU in Ames last year pretty badly. To think they are going to have the personnel, quickness, playmaking, coaching, etc. to beat us with the confidence we have is somewhat laughable. ISU is going to have a nice year, but that will not be based on how they play Hawks, they will exclude our showdown once it's all said and done.
