Dan Heiar in Car Accident

This is the release from Iowa

The following comment was released this afternoon by University of Iowa Football Coach Kirk Ferentz, in regard to offensive lineman Dan Heiar, who was involved in a single vehicle accident over the weekend:

“Dan Heiar was in an accident this weekend and is currently hospitalized.* Our only concerns right now are Dan’s well-being and recovery.”

Ferentz said more details will be released when appropriate.* Heiar joined the Hawkeye program this spring after attending Iowa Western Community College.* Heiar is a native of Charlotte, Iowa and attended Northeast Goose Lake High School as a prep.

According to Rob's site it happened on Saturday. Someone posted this story this morning.

Does it seem like this team has bad luck, or what? Hope he's okay.

Re: Dan Heiar in Car Accident

I'm from the area and went to the same high school and so far what I've heard is he has a broken wrist and other minor injuries. I will update as I hear more information.

Gotta think there's more involved than that. You're generally treated and released for "a broken wrist and other minor injuries," or at most held overnight. It sounds like he could be in the hospital for a while.

Hopeful for a full and speedy recovery.

You went from coma (pre-edit) to broken wrist and minor injuries? Conflicting sources?

Re: Dan Heiar in Car Accident

I do no thave any knowledge of the situation, so I do not want to speculate at all. What stood out to me is:

1) In Jon's Mashup, article, Ferentz stated that it was significant and they expected him to be in the hospital awhile.

2) The fact that Tyler Nielsen stated that they hoped to get more info at a team meeting later in the week, and hopefully get info on when they can visit.

It makes me wonder how serious this is if players are not allowed to visit yet.

Prayers for Mr. Heiar and his family.

Sooo ten min ago you said he was in a coma, and now he's just got some bumps and bruises? LOL.

Can we not particpate in any sort of rumor milling or speculation on here? This isn't like a football type injury where we are discussing how many games a player is missing this has potential life ramifications. Even if you THINK you are doing the right thing by passing something along you heard and believe to be true let's just keep it to ourselves.

Everyone will find out the real story at some point, and until then let's not be the source of spreading any type of rumors about the situation. There is absolutely nothing good that can come from that.

I'll be the first to admit it is very conflicting that I had first put that it was a coma but that's what one person said he heard. Then talk to someone who knows the situtation and that when I change what I had written so that I wasn't saying something that wasn't true. I'm not on here to spread false rumors. Just trying to inform people of what I have heard here locally.

Sorry for the mix-up
