Remarks about LB:

SURE THINGS: Right now we effectively have Nielsen and Morris locking down two spots.

CONTENDERS: Kirksey is healthy for now (knocking on wood) and is a top contender for a starter spot. Similarly, Hitchens is healthy and contendering too.

EXPERIENCE: Aside from Nielsen and Morris, Bruce Davis is the only other experienced guy we have. Of course, it's not yet clear that he's 100%.

INJURED RESERVE: Getz and Poggi are both guys who could contribute down the road. Poggi seems to have further to go to be at 100%. Getz at least seemed to just be practicing with a red jersey on. It sounds like Getz has had some promising athleticism ... however, it's not at all clear how that has translated to the LEO spot yet.

PROMISING INEXPERIENCE: Here we have Fisher, Spears, Alston, Lowdermilk, and Collins. Of course, of those guys, Spears and Alston are likely the most physically ready to hit the field right away. Of course, considering that we're willing to play Kirksey even though he's undersized ... if one of the less physically developed LB candidates prove that they can give it a go, then they could definitely end up earning reps.

Sucks. Hopefully linebacker won't be the defense's Achilles heel this year...

Obviously this is a serious reach, but I swear every picture I see Collins in, it looks like he is running 100 miles an hour & ready to rip someone’s head off. I really like his addition to this team and I anticipate him being a great special teams player this year if nothing else.

Re: DiNona injures Achilles done for year

Let's not fall completely off the deep end. Its a loss because he is a good kid, who has experience, has played quality ball while starting during the in conference portion of the schedule. It isn't however like last year when the three expected starters like never played a game together. Ya need to calm down. Bruce Davis who has been a starter and was supposed to start last year is back, he's number 2 on the depth chart behind Morris because well, Morris is a beast master. Davis can also play outside. The 1st team depth chart hasn't changed, and according to the last two deeps Dibona despite playing last year and starting two games was third string behind kirksey and hitchens. Which means the coaches saw enough to think that two guys who haven't played a ton have jumped ahead of a guy who started two games last year, that is ummmmmm, the definition of depth. Now if in another week Davis or Nielsen go down (Oh please don't) then we got something to talk about, until then, its a big loss cause he's a great kid but lets not get crazy.
