our new coach...

has to be better than Iowa states.
Jim womichil resigned from cedar rapids Jefferson in the midst of a 3 year winless streak. in his 9 or 10 seasons never had a winning record, or even close to a decent team. its being reported that hes leaving to a job on the isu staff. seems like a slam dunk hire to me.

sorry, didn't see the other thread. I'm used to the wrestling forum where a new thread doesn't leavethe first page a week.

anyway, if he has any spot in any d1 football program then swenson or sabers should go grab d1 money bc programs would beg for them.

Just because someone was a terrible head coach doesn't mean they're a terrible position coach. See Mr. Stoops for that. Great defensive coordinator mind, terrible head coaching mind.

Except you usually get a promotion after great performance.

Good thing for Jefferson. Their football teams were a joke. They showed up and that was it. Maybe they'll get e decent HC.

Re: our new coach...

He is a volunteer assistant, not the DB or WR assistant.

Re: our new coach...

The demise of the Jefferson football program has always amazed me. When it opened in the fall of 1957, Jefferson was the dominate team in the state. It produced wonderful players like Larry Lawrence, Dave Long, B.J. Trickey, etc. The J-Hawks won the first large school championship in 1972.

For some reason, which I don't completely understand, Jeff's football program went into the toilet after Kennedy was built. Those blue collar kids on the west side just hated the "country club set" at Wash. The Wash-Jeff rivalry back in the day was one of the best in the country. KCRG used to televise the games & Kingston still sold-out.

The reason Kennedy was built was because Wash & Jeff had over 2,500 students in three classes. Between the hill & the front drive, Wash had numerous portable class rooms. Now, it is my understanding, Wash & Jeff have only 1,200 students in four classes.
