A HC and a staff showing effort and willingness to contribute to fundraising can influence recruiting. He has an example to set as a leader for his team, and the players on his team are his number one priority. If Iowa loses a recruit because the staff is raising money for a good cause that reflects more on the recruit and their values than it does on the Iowa coaching staff.
