B1G coaches meet, Meyer gets to issue statement
What a crock. Delany sends a terse letter to Barta regarding Fran's sideline behavior with a chair but 11 of the 12 conference football coaches meet at B1G headquarters and Meyer issues the following self-serving statement. Delany is a gutless wonder.
B1G coaches meet, Meyer issues statement - Big Ten Blog - ESPN
"I was pleased to take part in a productive, regularly scheduled meeting of the Big Ten Conference coaches today in Chicago. We had an opportunity to discuss a number of issues with each other and conference staff, including those that have arisen this week. It should be noted that my coaching staff is in full compliance with our recruiting efforts, and no one on this staff did anything illegal or unethical. We will continue to comply with NCAA rules and recruit with relentless effort, especially the great state of Ohio.
"I want to thank Commissioner [Jim] Delany for his insight and leadership, and at this point we all look forward to moving past this week and getting ready for the start of spring football."

Tweeter, that assumes Meyer actually did anything wrong. Never underestimate Bert's ability to be a whiny dbag. Even Alvarez seems not to have Bert's back on this one:

Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez told ESPN.com he was unaware of any recruiting violations by Ohio State's Urban Meyer in the wake of Badgers coach Bret Bielema saying Meyer had used "illegal" methods.

Re: B1G coaches meet, Meyer gets to issue statement
To be quite frank, the NCAA giving ohio state an Exception so they could break the normal rules of recruiting as a university makes me wonder if its possible for Urban Meyer and Ohio State to do anything that violates policy. "Depends on what your definition of the word is, is!"

Bilema, Dantonio, and Meyer all just need to shut their mouths.
I like how Meyer is going act like he is the greatest coach in the world. No crap. You got better recruits than everyone at Florida and will at OSU. Most coaches would win a lot if their players were better than everyone else's players.
All it proves is you coach for historically great programs in strong recruiting areas where kids want to play at. Only bad coaches don't win at UM or OSU.

To be fair to Meyer he's won everywhere he's been. That said I still hate Ohio State.

Yeah! You put this Meyer guy at a school like Utah or Bowling Green and I guarantee he would fall flat on his face!

What rubs me wrong is that Delany finds it necessary to send a terse letter to Fran's boss regarding his behavior on the sideline as he tries to revive a basketball program that was pretty much down and out. But after open whining about Meyer's recruiting tactics, he, Meyer, is allowed to put out a pretty self-serving statement that only puts tOSU in a more favorable light (as if they needed it, what with the NCAA handling the tatoo/memorabilia sales scandal with kid gloves and giving Meyer an additional coach to recruit during the transition.)
Life's not fair. Got to always remember that.

Winning in the MAC is easier than winning year in and out in a major conference. Utah had major advantages over its MWC counterparts as well (hence why it is now in Pac-12).
I'm not saying he is a bad coach. I'm just saying only bad coaches can't win big at Florida and OSU. He also jumped off Florida, right before it was about to sink.

So it's like you're saying he's the reciprocal of the coach off of "Facing the Giants." I'm not saying he's not a good man, i'm saying he's not a good coach. In this case, you're not saying he's not a good coach, you're saying he's not a good man. Good movie facing the giants.

Re: B1G coaches meet, Meyer gets to issue statement
Meyer didn't do anything different than the other coaches. Wisky and MSU are sour grapes.
I love the attempts to make Meyer's coaching history look bad. He has won everywhere he has gone.

I'm saying Meyer should be mindful of the fact that he has every built in advantage to kick the crap out of everyone in the Big 10 (and had many of these advantages at Florida). Just because you win at a place where your are suppose to win at, doesn't mean your are the greatest thing since sliced bread.
Saban won at MSU some, but he didn't win big. Saban relocates to the built in advantages of Alabama now all of the sudden he's the world's greatest coach. Is he the world's greatest coach? Or is he just a good coach, coaching at a school that it's easy to win at?

Re: B1G coaches meet, Meyer gets to issue statement
Is there a rule that says that once a player commits to another school he is off limits. Meyer is a very successful coach and no doubt Ohio State will continue it's dominance of the Big Ten. I wonder what it's like to have a team play in a National Championship game or to come to expect to finish first or second in your conference every year and be a candidate for a BCS game just about every season. Would love to experience it. Now we can pretend we are Iowa State fans and none of that matters. We can hold hands and sing cumbiya and talk about how our coach is a swell guy and how he goes to church and sits in the front pugh. A famous coach once said "Winning is not everything....it's the only thing." Now I wouldn't go that far but I am not going to sit around a campfire roasting marshmellows and talk about how great it is to finish in fourth place every year and how our coach looks like Richie Cunningham off of the old show "Happy Days". I want to win dang gum it!!! Now let us pray........
