Okeefe's departure has to make you wonder

What happened behind closed doors? KOK leaves a cushy gig as an offensive coordinator for a solid Big 10 program to take his chances in the incredibly violatile world of the NFL. We know (or least we think we know) Ferentz doesn't fire people based on - what some perceive as - poor job performance. I've heard many people speak of Ferentz being loyal to a fault. So what happened here?

I have a hard time believing Okeefe was tired of his name being slandered by a percentage of the Hawkeye faithful for the aforementioned perceived poor job performance and elected to move on. I also have a hard time believing Ferentz told him to test the waters. So what then? Other voices in the athletic department making their feelings known? After what happened with Lickliter we know Barta isn't afraid to pull the trigger when he believes something/someone isn't working out. Has to at least make you wonder.

No way Barta could strong-arm KF.

plenty of examples of KF getting rid of players (multiple drug test fails and/or infractions) and coaches for poor performance. he just doesn't make it a 'firing' rather, a guy leaves for a new job, or a new school to play for.

Look no further than the DL coach at Nebraska.

KOK wants to move up. He had to move to have that chance.

Or perhaps he wants to be a head coach? College to pros and back is a better path than OC to head coach sometimes....especially when passed over.

Or, cash is good, with a minimum three year run, with no recruiting, leaving in freaking Miami, as a AARP member.

Good for KOK

Re: Okeefe's departure has to make you wonder

It's hard to say. People wonder why a coach at Iowa would leave for the NFL when they have job security and a strong pay check (people say that about Ferentz all the time) but it's possible that the coaches want the challenge of the pros and to be a part of winning a Super Bowl (no I'm not claiming the Dolphins to be Super Bowl contenders) and that type of success is something you won't get as a coach in college, even as a college head coach (duh.) so there's that possibility.

Maybe KOK wanted the DC position and realized he wasn't getting it!

No way does Barta push Ferentz on his staff. When (if) that happens KF will leave and it should be that way.

I really, truly wish KOK the absolute best of luck, but unfortunately only one word comes to mind with O'Keefe leaving the program....."exposed".

Not sure what you are saying here. I put that example after the player - ala Jewel Hampton. I meant performance for coaches - ala the Nebraska DL coach. Plenty of examples of both.

No, I don't mean KOK left due to drug test fails.

Agree with both statements. firstly, I think it would be a personal good move on kok's part to add some change and eventually coin. I certainly wish him well and thank him for many good moments as well. Also good for our program for
the new blood.

But certainly for KF, KOK, the dolphins, philbin, the Hawks (albeit a lesser degree)...they are all going to be exposed!
