Why WOULD O'Keefe stay?
There might be some hard feelings we don't know about, but there are some easy answers as to why O'Keefe would take this opportunity.
1. I believe his daughter lives in Florida. As empty nesters, I am sure it is nice for his wife (who probably doesn't see her husband much), to live close to a child.
2). I think he coached Philbin back in the day. Maybe they've always been closer than O'Keefe and Ferentz.
3). I hear the NFL pays pretty well, even for a QB coach. I hear the NFL pension is pretty nice, too.
4). Miami is mentioned as a possible front runner for Manning. Coaching Payton Manning might rank right up there with coaching Jake Christensen.
5). The chance to coach in the Super Bowl. See #4.
6). Although the weather is pretty sweet in Johnson County in February, South Beach ain't bad either.
7). As much fun as it is spending most of your days in the off-season trolling high school hallways and telling some 17 year old how much you'd like him to come to Iowa, and your nights in random hotel rooms, it's probably nice to spend most nights at home with your wife, enjoying spring evenings on the porch in Miami.
8). If you get fired in the NFL, your job opportunities at the college level are the same, if not better, as when you left.
