Do people really think D1 OC to NFL QB coach is a step down?

I've seen this in a few places. QB coach is the most important and highest paid position coach in the NFL. Even if OC to QB coach is a slight step down D1 to the NFL is a huge step up.

supposedly he will be a wr coach. but i wouldnt call it a step down more of a lateral move. this is probably because if he gets some nfl experience his chances at a head coaching spot in college increase. i would actually bet that kf told him that. i think kok wants to be a hc at a major college and has been looked over by the jobs he wanted so he talked to kf and kf told him some nfl experience would give him an edge. and that experience doesnt need to be as an oc (kf never was). i predict that in under 5 yrs we see kok coaching a school like indiana or illinois or kansas type school. i dont think we will but i just hope we dont rush this hire. with how dc has gone i would doubt they would.

At worst it's a lateral move, imo. From the standpoint of where it can lead you to, both college coordinator and NFL position coach lead to the avenue of NFL coordinator (not saying O'Keefe will become a pro coordinator).

Hours are probably the same, but with less travel (no recruiting in NFL, but much more practice time). I have no idea about the average compensation at either level, but I think NFL position coach would have to be at least comparable in pay.

It's probably a step up, maybe a small one (if doing it for career advancement), maybe a large one (if doing it to reduce travel and go live in the sun).

Oh, another I love me some KOK thread. Well, now that he took a step-up Ia will have to scramble for another OC that will be mediocre at best in order to the fill the size 9 mens shoes leaving.

I would consider it a diagonal move. Lateral, but slightly up or down depending how you look at it. The fact he is teaming up with someone he used to work with means that it was more an opportunity for kok than a nudge out the door.

It's a lateral move in the short term but as already noted can lead to upward movement in the long run.

Moving from a Major Div one job as an OC to a WR coach is a step down.

Even if it is the NFL.... don't overcomplicate it

It may be a lateral move pay wise...but its up to the person making the move to place value on what is important to their life right now.

Not having to be on the road recruiting is a big plus. the weather is an upgrade, and the older I get, the less I want to be in Iowa in the winter.

I imagine it's a step down in pay and definitely in responsibility, I think that's why people are calling it a step down. I don't think anyone is devaluing being in the NFL.
