For instance, there are MAC teams with recruiting classes ranked 70+ that are in the top 20 in total offense. There are just too many other variables (schedule, style, game situations throughout the season, etc.).

That's because they play in the MAC against other teams ranking in the 70s or lower and not against OSU and Michigan that recruit in the top 10.
