Play calling Experience For OC?
How important do you think play calling experience should be in searching for the OC? Offensive play calling seems more delicate to me than defensive play calling (maybe that is a misperception). Things move fast during the game. There are adjustments to be made. Setting up future plays. Showing different looks.
It just seems like a complicated thing, where experience is very beneficial. Experience will allow a coach to observe his tendencies over time. The coach will know how reacts to certain situations. Does get emotional and overly aggressive? Does he clam into a shell when things aren't going well. How quickly does he trust his QB after mistakes? How aggressive or conservative does he get with blocking protections, especially if the line has looked leaky? These are things KF probably wants to know as well.
These all strike me as things a coach will discover through experience. I don't think this experience has to be at the BCS level, these same situations occur at all level of football.
I bring this up because I don't think any offensive coach on our staff has play calling experience (maybe Morgan at the high school level?). It strikes me as risky to give someone that responsibility for the first time as a Big Ten offensive coordinator. Curious on other people's thoughts?
