DC Hire Strike One
Well I was wrong abut Aiken way back. KF would have liked to have him, but I don't think he expected to lure him away, was a token gesture. Now I am hearing that the DC position will be an internal promotion. There must be some method to the Captain's madness.

Re: DC Hire Strike One
I just don't see the internal hire. If that was the case it would have been announced already.

Re: DC Hire Strike One
I will be totally fine with Hermann, Bradley or Phil Parker. LeVar Woods as a D line coach is a big upgrade over Coach K as far as I'm concerned.

why because those on HN dont' know? has it affected recruiting or the team in any manner? I don't think so, but I'm not an insider. Just because you don't like the hire doesn't mean it was ****** down their legs. The thing is that KF doesn't care if the rest of us know. He has his agenda and he'll go by it. Pretty funny how restless so many Hawkeye fans get around here.

Or, KF knew there would be more staff shake-up and wanted to address it all once the staff was completed. This is just what is being thrown around the Athletic department. I could obviously have received inaccurate info, but thought I would pass along what I have heard from a friend who has provided great insight into these types of happenings in the past.

Re: DC Hire Strike One
How about we just agree that nobody outside of the football offices know? I've read people on both the free and pay boards betting their reputations on Bradley, Herrmann, Parker, and many others. At this juncture, speculation is nearly pointless.

Re: DC Hire Strike One
With the delay, I still think we either pursued or are hiring someone involved on a Superbowl team for DC or as a position coach.
Also, if that is the case, I think following the Ticker-tape parade today we will hear something.

Re: DC Hire Strike One
Just passing on what I have heard. Not saying that anything is 100%. I understand a lot is being thrown out there, but this is from the guy that told me about the DJK, Lickliter, and Christiensen fiascos before they became public.

While I am glad others can see that O'Keefe carried the water during most of his tenure at Iowa, it is important to remember that Iowa's defensive scheme requires a pretty high skill set at all three levels and we were missing LBs in 2010. By the end of 2008 and during most of 2009, the defense was playing well because we had Clayborn and co. blowing up the line, Edds and Angerer finally "got" the defense and were beasts in coverage (which is very critical) and the secondary (Phil Parker's unit) was really, really good. In 2010, we were decimated at linebacker so we were doing things like dropping Clayborn back into coverage, the d-line had to play more contain rather than going straight after the QB (which provided more time in the pocket for the QB), and the intermediate passing defense on the TEs/slot receivers was absolutely atrocious because of a combination of time and inexperience by our LBs. We also lost Spievey from the secondary and he was a damn good corner.
The Iowa defense looks simplistic and the 2010 drop off is sometimes blamed on coaching, but to be honest, if you blame the coaching for the 2010 drop off, you either weren't watching the games or you simply do not understand football.
