Erb a top 25 recruiter

Lester Erb named a top 25 recruiter | TheGazette

Didn't see this posted. From article:

Here’s the release from UI sports info:

ERB RECOGNIZED AS TOP RECRUITER

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa running backs coach Lester Erb has been recognized by Rivals.com as one of the top 25 recruiters in the nation. The honor is the second for Erb, who was also recognized by Rivals.com in 2005. Erb also works with the Iowa special teams.

Re: Erb a top 25 recruiter

i think on scout he's listed as the primary recruiter for all but one of our 4 star recruits. found that interesting.

Darrell Wilson was named to same list last year by Rivals as well.

Re: Erb a top 25 recruiter

I think Rivals does this mostly as PR. Not saying I blame them, as it helps to create possible 'ins' with assistants with the good pub.

That being said, I don't necessarily think that it's a cut and dried process. Iowa has been pulling players from Illinois for decades...and the 2005 and 2012 classes in Illinois also happen to coincide with years where Illinois made coaching changes...there are a great deal of factors that come in to play. Some years the state you work in has players you need at certain positions of need, and factors like coaching changes, etc.

I think Lester does a solid job, so this isn't a rant against him or anyone..more pointing out my opinion that this designation from Rivals is more fluffy than anything else.

Where does he rank as a special teams coach?

Reading all of your posts about how the Hawkeye coaching staff is basically doing everything wrong, you obviously know a great deal more than KF about how to assemble a Division 1 football coaching staff.

I think you should give Gary Barta a call and see if you and 6 or 7 of your buddies can give it a try next year. I bet you'd do great!

Everybody is entitled to their opinion, but posts like yours are growing old.

That's great. Where does he rank in player attrition?

I am not allowed to point out facts? Are you pleased with the special teams play? I think KF is a good coach but to say you are not supportive because I point out flaws is stupid. Only a commie thinks like that.

Of course you're entitled to you opinion... so I guess that means I'm not a commie . I guess your post just caught me at a bad time because I'm tired of reading all the negative posts lately about all of the moves.

No, I'm not too pleased with the special teams play lately, but I'm not going to put that all at the feet of Lester Erb. KF sees him coach every day. Do you really think he would leave him in that position if he didn't believe it gives them the best chance to win?

Everybody thinks they're such a great judge of coaching abilities. KOK was terrible... So terrible that an NFL team hired him. Phil Parker not a good choice as DC... Now we find out that Phil Parker had been offered DC jobs recently, including one at a top 10 ranked program.

I just believe KF knows what he's doing.

Jon is right. He pulls from one neighboring state that had a head coaching change at the flagship U. The other neighboring state lost all their assistants and the others were going elsewhere for players. It was the perfect storm for success. Much like 2005.

If he was pulling players from elsewhere I would be impressed.
