Re: GameFilm: Iowa Offensive Analysis from Spring Practice
We need to beat the non-conference teams that we should beat. We need to beat ISU and Minny (together, they were the tough losses last year). We need to beat NW, Indy, and Purdue.
That's a solid start. In recent years, we haven't beaten the teams that we need to beat to get to a "base" of 7 wins. Everything on top of that is gravy, this year. It's basketball season!

Re: GameFilm: Iowa Offensive Analysis from Spring Practice
When you say west coast offense I think of those 49er teams of the 80's and 90's I get all 32 NFL teams have west coast principles in their offense and many D-1 schools, but when you say west coast I think Bill Walsh and those great 49er teams. I think Brad Rogers could be huge next year. He won't be Tom Rathman, but I can see a 15 catch, 3 to 400 yd. rushing year.
JVB's overall skill set is better than Stanzi's the one thing Stanzi does better is throwing the ball on the move. Hopefully, JVB improves on that as time progresses.
Coker had his strengths, but finding cut back lanes wasn't one of them. It just so essential in a zone blocking scheme. I realize Coker ran for 1300 yds., but their was a lot yardage left out on the field for a good cut back runner. Whoever gets the job doesn't need to be Shonn Greene or even Fred Russell if they are Adam Robinson it will open up so much for this offense."The truth is like rain it really doesn't care who it lands on."--Eddie Griffin

Is it just me or do these seem more positive than the gamefilm spring practice write up?

Re: GameFilm: Iowa Offensive Analysis from Spring Practice
I watched the spring event tonite on BTN and I thought we looked ok. Now, hard to tell which unit is breaking down, but I thought the offense looked promising, and yet the defense had its moments. I thought we looked like we had some decent football players out there. If we make the kind of progress that KF expects, I suspect we win 8 games minimum next year...with an upset here and there. Staying injury-free will be critical.

I didn't see it JH but was told the offense was having trouble punching it in, any truth to that?

Re: GameFilm: Iowa Offensive Analysis from Spring Practice
The offense as a whole was a little off, which is hardly surprising considering they've only had the new OC around for a few months & it's the spring practice. Things definitely weren't smooth in the goal-line drill though. Red zone offense generally requires more precision than normal and it was pretty clear things aren't fully formed at this point. I wouldn't worry about the goal-line offense until they're in games and struggle to punch it in.

Yeah, worrying about Spring practice is kinda like getting really excited for HS recruit, although I've been guilty of both
