Start from the premise (that hopefully most or all of us can agree upon) that winning a B1G championship as soon (and as often )as possible is the primary goal of the program. If this season isn't going very well, at what point would you begin to give most of the QB playing time to Rudock (or other QB), in order to develop him looking ahead to the future? What would it take for you?

Obviously we want to put together at least somewhat respectable seasons to compete for recruits going forward, but at what point would you accept that the season will end with a mediocre result and start focusing on next season? Most other positions will be much more experienced than QB in 2013 than they will be in 2012, and so having the opportunity to start an experienced QB at the helm in 2013 would be huge.

Not trying to give up on this season before it starts, just thinking about the realistic possibility that we won't be competing on the level we want and would love to be in the hunt in 2013. I say if we start the season say 4-3, with the remaining schedule being by far the toughest, it would be time.

In other words, if I understand, JVB being better than anyone else on the roster he will help better develop the rest of the O that will be back in 2013. That's fair.

JVB is an all B1G QB, so I am going to say sitting him is not an option. If we do not win, it will be a function of not enough plays being made on D and the lack of a running game. JVB may just be the best QB since Brad Banks, only thing is the other QB's before him including Tate ( Who I loved) had awesome D's to make up for their mistakes. Not exactly sure why people rag on JVB so much, he makes throws not to many other QB's in the B1G can make. If he learns to feel pressure and read blitzes better he may just break the single season touchdown record. I think he will flurish in Davis' system with shorter drops and timing routes. If you watch what he did against OSU a couple of years ago, the plays being called for him were just like the system Davis will bring. This style will make good use of our talented tight ends and lack of depth at receiver. WE ARE SET AT QB.

Performance would be the only reason, in my estimation, to give another QB the majority of playing time this season.

You didn't ask, but I will answer further. To give some 2 and 3 deeps snaps? My opinion is a lot sooner than we do now. I realize there needs to be snaps, even in blowouts, for the starters, in early season games. Probably especially in 2012. Having said that, I wouldn't mind more 2 and 3 deeps playing downs when games are out of hand.

If 2001, 2007, and 2008 are any barometer for the future, the #1 QB is the #1 QB until it is abundantly clear the #2 QB is considerably better.

this isn't madden where you play your second stringers and tank games to get a higher draft pick. at this level you play the guys that give you the best chance to win. to suggest otherwise is ******* stupid.
