Drew Tate Calgarry No. 1 quarterback

Saw this on the Hlas blog - great feature on Drew and his stepfahter:

Former Iowa quarterback is the Calgary Stampeders’ No. 1 quarterback. His Canadian Football League career began in 2007, but he became a starter for the first time late last season.

In TSN’s hour-and-a-half look at the CFL season ahead is this 6-minute feature was on Tate and his stepfather, Dick Olin. The piece begins at the 62:30 mark of the video.

Tate was 13-of-21 with a touchdown pass and an interception in Calgary’s 33-31 preseason win over Saskatchewan last Friday. Calgary’s regular-season starts Sunday with a home game against the Montreal Alouettes.

TSN looks a lot like ESPN. I don't know if that's a good thing or bad.

When & where can we find CFL games on? I thought some station broadcasted some? I'll have to try to follow Calgary & keep up on his progress. Glad he is doing well. Nice story.

ESPN owns 20% of TSN. Games in the past were on the NFL network and the schedule usually wasn't announced until about now. A day before the season starts. From what I have read this year they will not be on the NFL Network and only the second half of the season, the playoffs and Grey Cup will be televised.
It is hilarious to see how the media works. Somebody writes an article, others copy information from it, others copy from it again. If we take a $hit in a bowl. Then you eat that $hit and puke it back into a different bowl for someone else to eat then they do the same thing, what do you have?

I concur. Tough, accurate passer, put on some great moves dodging and scrambling out of the pocket and on runs, definite winner, high strung no doubt, a winner.

I think he got somewhat frustrated his junior year with some close losses and the conservative offensive playcalling. Then I think alot of his frustration his senior year was with a lot of dropped passes and fumbles after catches, and again some close losses. Tate was the kind of player who I think you wanted to ad lib some during a game.

He had a chance to be one of the great iowa qbs over 3 years except for those close losses in some dubious, conservative offensive coaching.

Good to see that Tate is doing well......Maybe there is an NFL shot down the road.

Drew has taken some unfair criticism in the past, but he was a good QB with some incredible pocket instincts/awareness. I liked the when I was making playing with his feet he kept looking downfield. Case in point- The WI game in '04 when everything had broken down and he found Solomon all alone.

Its really interesting they were conservative in 2006 but weren;t in 2005. Weird how that works.

I think you need to reread that. He said it was conservative in his junior season (2005)

When you have one of the worst running games in the nation you have to have an aggressive QB

He had much better numbers in 2005 as a junior than he did in 2004. He was never completely healthy during the 2006 year except for maybe the Alamo Bowl. Ah hell forget it, it's just easier to blame KOK, right?
