I'll start listening to NPR as soon as they add Mark Levin or Michael Savage to their line-up. Though I have to admit I do enjoy watching PBS.

Saddened to hear this. Mason has done a lot for the university and it's always hard to go through a change in leadership, no matter what. I think they should wait until things unfold a little more to find out exactly what happened. How many times have we seen someone make a reactionary move to this and then the person gets exonerated?

Just hold your horses, regents, and let the rest of the story come out first.

I certainly agree. She has not been fired at this point. Hopefully, she will be able to fulfill whatever expectations the board has required of her.

They need to ship Sally out on the first train leaving town. Too many blunders. A few weeks back when a jury said the school should have been the one being held accountable because of liberal bias instead of a Dean, should have been the final nail in her coffin.

Nice to see another Hawk Fan that is a Mark Levin listener! If people want to learn a lot about the U.S. Constitution and our Founding Fathers, they should listen to Mark Levin.

Regents don’t renew U-I president’s contract, want her to work on issues

Board of Regents president, Craig Lang, confirms the board has not renewed the contract for University of Iowa President Sally Mason. “That’s correct. Her contract –five-year contract –was up in August, and what we did, we did not renew a new contract with President Mason. She is employed at will,” Lang says.
Lang says there are a number of things the board really wants to work with Mason on to improve. Lang says, “We want to see improvement in outreach across the state, we wanted to see improvement in relationship building with the Iowa Legislature, we also want President Mason to show us her goals that she felt could be accomplished as it relates to the University of Iowa. And so during that process and period, we didn’t feel it was appropriate to give her any length of contract.”
Lang says the board is looking for improvements that aren’t easily spelled out in a contract. “We’d like to see the University of Iowa be well known for the things it brings to the state.The dentists, the nurses, the lawyers, the communication that the University is doing really great things and we think all of that kind of communication starts at the top,” according to Lang.
The University has come under fire recently after sexual harassment charges were made against a former academic advisor. The university investigation found former associate director of athletic student services, Peter Gray, engaged in inappropriate behavior with students that ranged from making sexual comments to trading athletic event tickets for sexual favors.
Lang was critical of the university during this week’s Board of Regents meeting, saying the incident suggests the university is not doing a good job in the area of sexual harassment. The sexual harassment policies at all three state-supported schools were overhauled after a sexual assault at the U-I in 2008.

I'm assuming you're referring to the perv Gray case...
First off, I think there's enough there to say this is the right call.
Secondly, usually when investigations are happening, those in the know usually know some (if not everything). So this may be a tell that some shhhtuff is coming down the pipe.
Additionally, this also may give a hint that the too brass may be changing out due to the current situations. IMO, the airtight buyout/contract warrants a change at the top (Mason/Barta).

I am not saying it won't have an impact eventually if we have another bad season or two like 2012. However, how has this contract hurt the University or the Athletic Department up to this point? It has had no impact on the University whatsoever because the Athletic Department is self sufficient.

At this point, the Athletic Department is in very good shape financially and that is mostly due to Football revenues. There is a vocal minority of our fan base that is irritated by the contract but it hasn't translated into loss of revenue yet. Again, another bad season or two like 2012 may start to have a negative impact on revenue but there is no evidence of that yet. Therefore, you can't call it a bad contract right now.
