Wegher vs Robinson

Is it just me or is Robinson a better back at this point? Is seems that Wegher goes down too easy. He is a great return man, but Robinson seems to get more yards when he is in. Wegher has shown that he is great out of the backfield for passing situations, but doesn't seem to make the same type of plays out of the backfield as Robinson does. Not that iit isn't good for him to get some experience, but maybe he needs to put on some weight to be used as much as he is. I think that he would do well to give Robinson a breather, but Robinson should be the main back. Just my thoughts.

Ok, I was going to start a thread on this. I have every Iowa game still on DVR. After watching Saturdays game I came up with a reason for why Wegher struggles a little. First just let me say this forget WR/Slash guy this kid will be a big time big 10 back. So I re watched all the games and I feel I'm correct. Wegher is slower getting the handoff then Arob. Making him a little slower getting to the holes. He's just a true freshman but this is my evaluation.

I like them both getting plenty of carries each game. Find the one back who is hot and run him more in the 2nd half. When Wegher spins out of tackles it get me excited to see him run, but when Robinson hits the holes and plows his way through I get excited as well. I think we can live with both.

Re: Wegher vs Robinson

This past game it did seem Robinson did better, but as I watched it the 2nd-3rd-4th-time, Wegher got hit frequently, almost, before he got the ball. I'm pretty happy with the way the coaching staff is handling the rotation. I was really depressed when Hampton went down, and have been really surprised at how well our running backs have done.

Re: Wegher vs Robinson

The rotation of the two backs doesnt really bother me a whole lot. Robinson seems to be a bit more productive, but for me and my little area of section 138, Wegher is a lot more fun to yell than ARob. yeah? huh? WWEEEGGHHHEEERRRRRR!!!! I think I'd be alright either way.

Re: Wegher vs Robinson

I think they'll both be very good RB's the next 3 years with a lot of upside. I like the every other series rotation for now. Keeps them both fresh for the 4th quarter. And remember that Wegher was playing against HS kids last year. Big jump in 1 year to playing against Big 10 defenses. I predict they'll both improve a lot by next season. Be interesting to see how those 2 plus Hampton will get playing time.

Re: Wegher vs Robinson

Wegher just needs a full year of Mr. Doyle's regiment training.

To be fair, with all the internet hype surrounding Wegher, we were able to see that, even though it was against 3A talent (OMGZ!1), he had some decent potential. Couple that with repeated mentions of 4.28 in the 40 (sorry boys and girls, but that's a typically overstated high school 40 time) and it's easy to see why people are giving Wegher a pass.

Then again, Paki is in his 4th (?) year here, while Wegher is a true freshman. If Wegher is running towards defenders as opposed to daylight in 3 years, then we've overestimated Mr. Wegher.

Re: Wegher vs Robinson

Right now, I take Robinson in these ultra physical games against teams like Wisconsin and MSU...perhaps vs Indiana and NW, that changes. But I like what I have been seeing from Robinson, especially in the second half
