NCAA looking at reducing number of scholarships from 85 to 80?

It will also consider reducing the number of basketball scholarships from 13 to 12. Other measures being looked at is eliminating all foreign travel, reducing mandatory out-of-season practice time, and cutting the number of games across a number of sports.

My first reaction is that this may not be a bad thing.

Though it would be for a different reason, the NCAA needs to address over signing as well.

Can we go back to 22 scholarships? In football....come on, deep down everyone wants to see the return of the Iron Men.

The article did not mention a reason behind this.

I would say they're trying to save universities money, but that is dumb. It will just increase over signing, unless they deal with it.

That would help Iowa and hurt teams like Alabama, Texas, USC, OSU, etc.

I agree that oversigning has to be stopped.

In theory, fewer scholarships = even more parity.

Might not be bad. Especially if it saves another non-revenue team at some universities.
