Good Article on Clayborn

I saw him preseason in KC, and he was obviously leaner than last year. Article says he is down 20 pounds to 265 - I believe it. Has looked significantly quicker off the ball, and more explosive the last few weeks. Good to see him having success. Different scheme (1 gap versus 2 gap) seems to be fitting him well. Making some rookie mistakes, but also earning his keep. Good luck to AC.

He's being paid now too. We have to figure out the formula at OSU...their guys get paid, maybe that's why we can't beat them.

Re: Good Article on Clayborn

“You got him to hit a running back or hit a quarterback and be a finisher for you,” Morris said of Clayborn. “He’s been awesome. He’s been excellent. That’s what makes you fall in love with a guy like Clayborn. He can go through a game without any stats, but absolutely beat up the other team because he comes at you 100 miles per hour every play.”

I think this is what maybe caused some fans to think AC wasn't playing well, because he wasn't getting Sacks and TFLs, but he doing his job and beating up the other team. It was def. a handful.

Re: Good Article on Clayborn

I think there is a legit reason to question Clayborn's conditioning prep going into the 2010 season. Seems like plenty of weight room not enough cardio. However, I will concur that the stats aren't always an indicator of the overall productivity. In watching Iowa play last year, my problem with Clayborn had far more to do with when he was off the field, not when he was on the field.

To be fair, he's probably playing 30% to 40% less snaps this year per game than he was last year at Iowa. Playing the 1-gap system allows him to maintain leverage and attach the edge of the lineman, not center mass - conducive to being leaner/faster where as the Iowa system required him to engage lineman and fight off in both directions. Just some observations...
