The players decertified the union, the NBA could at this point.

BSpring I think you are on to something but it could be taken a step further.

All of the NBA teams (or those that are interested) can be sold to the players union at fair market value plus 15% (ghetto markup). Now the inmates truly do run the prison and they can do with it as they see fit. If they purchase more than 50% of the existing franchises then they will control the NBAPA and the NBA Owners.

I would give it 5 years before its run into the ground and filing bankruptcy. Then the current owners could come back in and repurchase the assets for a significant discount and start over again with total control.

Contraction works for me. Eliminate Minnesota, Memphis, Orlando, Charlotte, New Orleans and maybe even Golden State. Instead of 15 teams losing money, now you are down to 8 or 9. Instead of losing upwards of a 150 million, now you are down to a managable 80 or 90 mil.
