SIAP - Words from a former Iowa assistant

you know an iowa assistant - assistant coaches that no one else wants......

giving praise to Ferentz and KOK. something to ponder.....

Miami Dolphins Coach Joe Philbin Introduction - The Phinsider

(On who were your biggest influences) - "Well, the biggest influence I probably had was when I went to Worchester Academy in the Fall of 1979 and one of my classmates, my next door neighbor, State Senator (Jack) Hart from South Boston is over here today with my family. But there I was fortunate to be coached by Kirk Ferentz, who some of you guys know the head coach of the University of Iowa. Mike Sherman, who was the head coach at Texas A&M most recently, but was also the man responsible that gave me the opportunity to coach in the National Football League. Ken O'Keefe, the offensive coordinator at the University of Iowa. I worked with all three of those men at different places along the way. I worked with Coach O'Keefe at Allegheny College. We won a National Championship. I worked with Coach Ferentz at the University of Iowa. We were fortunate to win the only time in Iowa history that went undefeated in the Big Ten Conference. And then I worked with Coach Sherman where we won two division championships up in Green Bay. That was probably the most impactful year that I had and those were some of the men that inspired me in the coaching profession. And obviously, my last six years with Coach (Mike) McCarthy in Green Bay have been fantastic. He's an excellent football coach and a great human being so that's been a great experience for me as well."

Re: SIAP - Words from a former Iowa assistant

1. You really think he would bad mouth the guys he's worked with along the way? Most coaches won't do that. Doesn't really say anything one way or the other.

2. Is it a coincidence that historically, even under Ferentz, we had most of our success when we had assistants that were desired elsewhere? Philbin, Aiken, Bielema, Snyder, McCarney, etc. Guys like Norm are the exception to the general rule of assistants with no ambition typically aren't as good as those who do have it.

I'm not advocating firing anyone, not even close. Just an observation.

This thread was born from humble beginnings. A simple question was asked, and d-bag decided to answer it in a condescending manner. We then proceeded to chastise him. Since then a myriad of topics have ranged from the sensible (Who would win in jousting, Tony Mo or Moped Man?), to the ludicrous (STATE actually landing an attractive woman ). You sir, are a clonebag, attempting to bring us down! This will not be permitted nor tolerated. RELEASE THE KRAKEN!!!!!!

you did notice that he didn't name people from all the schools he's coached at.....he certainly wouldn't have had to name KOK.....from the way back machine......

explain Osborne's success with his assistants that stayed with him the whole time - every one of them. no good? or were good coaches who liked where they coached and who they coached for?

and just because you turn down a job to go elsewhere does that = having no ambition?

Why would he mention Kirk and Ken at all if he did not have great respect for them? He certainly could have skipped them and just credited coaches he had worked with more recently.

I took a quick look at his bio...he pretty much just named the guys with whom he spent more than 2 years with. So I don't know that it's really saying much...

I don't care who the praise came from. All I can say is our offense was ranked 76th this year. In a year we where the offense was suppose to shine.... We were ranked 60th the year before and 89th the year before that.

Norm's defense will be missed. We need a home run hit here. I hope Kirk has a good one lined up to announce in two weeks!
