Really? How many times did the Hawks throw at Leonard Johnson? There was a reason for that. The receiver he blanketed disappeared, and it was not because the staff forgot they had receivers. Reeves got burnt once deep, and then held up well on the outside. All Iowas good plays in the passing game came over the middle after that. The ISU DBs played very well. I think you failed to actually watch the game.

Damnit.

Hopkins (Minn.) WR Andre McDonald just let me know he committed to Vanderbilt. Chose Vandy over Iowa, Minnesota and Ohio State.

Re: not getting top recievers

To me the conservatism that is ran at Iowa has a direct effect on the lack on top flight receivers committing to Iowa. They look at games like this past Saturday in Ames and 2 years ago in Columbus and I'm sure it turns them off from Iowa. Big time players want to go for the win, not give the other team a chance at overtime.

Other offenses with playmakers at the WR spot find ways to get their guys the ball. When you are giving up 9 inches, you can't always be right. Either you sit on the inside and make the QB throw fades or you sit on the outside and funnel the receiver into more help.

Re: not getting top recievers

Over 800 yards of passing yards through 3 games ... in a pro-set O, no less.

That tells me that WR recruits ought to be paying attention. If now ... they're crazy!

Re: not getting top recievers

The popularity of spread offenses has those programs sucking up most WRs. Not only do they throw the ball a lot to give the receivers gaudy statistics, but they play 6-7 receivers a game, giving even freshmen serious reps. Good players will go to programs like that over a pro-set like Iowa every time.
