Where were Iowa's coaches tonight?

With the bye week this week, Iowa's coaches had an extra opportunity to see some recruits play. Erik Campbell and Reese Morgan were in Des Moines to see Amara Darboh and Dowling Catholic play Ankeny. Darboh is hurt and didn't actually play, but it gives them a chance to talk to him and see other recruits (and potential recruits) in the game.

Does anyone have any information on where other coaches were tonight?

Good to hear that they're makin' Darboh feel loved. Combine that with the fact that Iowa's WRs have been having great production this year and also combine it with the fact that we have some seriously good passing QBs in Vandenberg and Rudock ... and you're looking at a recipe that should be rather tantalizing to quality WRs.

Iowa has been talking to another Dowling player from what I have heard. He is #11 Wisnewski. I believe he plays TE. He had a couple good catches last night in their victory over Ankeny. Also, the kicker for Ankeny was impressive (yes I am talkign about a kicker). Hope they decide to look at hime too.

Cole Netten, the K from Ankeny, has committed to Iowa State. He'll be Ankeny's 7th scholarship kicker to graduate in the past 15 years.

If you were at the game, how does Joel Lanning look? I've thought that he would probably be a D1 athlete, but I'm not sure if that will be in football or baseball. Does he look like a Big Ten calibar football player?

I was at the game. I think he played OK. He missed a couple of passes that could have been long gains if not TDs for them. Honestly, I was more impressed with the Southeast Polk QB in person than Lanning.

That kicker is the real deal. He was booming the kickoffs and the FGs he made would have been good from 45-50 out. Very strong leg.

Re: Where were Iowa's coaches tonight?

Anyone willing to or able to list all of the Ankeny scholly kickers?

I can think of Todd Sievers (Miami), Schlicher, and the kid that went to Kansas State a few years back (Hanson?), plus the current guy.

Who were the others? Were they successful at the next level?

Edit: Quick google of Hanson says he went to Kansas in the class of 05. Did he ever see the field there?

Re: Where were Iowa's coaches tonight?

Todd Sievers ('98--state record 63 yarder vs. Ft. Dodge in '97) to Miami, Kyle Schlicher ('02) to Iowa, Jared Parker to K-State in '04, Alex Hanson to Kansas in '05, and Netten to ISU this year were all FBS. There were two that were FCS kickers, and I'm 75% sure each had a scholarship; though, I could be wrong. Mat Johnson graduated in '06 (with me, which is why I know so much about this) and kicked for Northeastern in Boston. Zeb Miller (state championship game record 47-yarder and vs. Bettendorf in '07) graduated in '09 and is the starter at North Dakota.

Peter Rameh is Ankeny's kicking coach, and without being too much of a homer, I believe he might be the best instructor for young kickers in America.

Preparing for Penn State. It's the only game the coaches game plan for.
