I try to pay as little attention to recruiting as possible, but I would agree with you... It would be great to add this young man to the Hawkeye defense. And perhaps he could be the leader on the field this team is lacking. I'd be proud to have this young man in a Hawkeye uniform. Let's hope he sees it the same way.

Thanks for posting the link to the story. After reading it, if I were on the Iowa coaching staff, I would be re-thinking my recruiting. Instead of investing all my time recruiting fickle, untested 18-year-olds, most of whom have no idea what it means to live away from home let alone stare death in the face every day, I'd be hitting those military bases in search of young men like Mr. Sheffield.

People like Mr. Sheffield have earned the opportunity in ways most high school football players -- or me -- can't even imagine. If Captain Kirk wants to turn this Hawkeye ship around, I can't think of a better way to do it than by calling in the Marines, the Army, the Navy and the Air Force.

And if you don't believe me, just check with Ricky Stanzi... Not to mention that old Marine, Hayden Fry.

That's who I was thinking too. I remember after the Michigan St game that sent us to the Rose Bowl that there was an entertaining story on how Blatcher was reporting back to Fry after each series on how the "mission" was going.

I was hoping that we would have offered him when our D line coach went to visit but it seems like we will on his official. Sure looks like he is going to be a Hawk!
