With Garmon committing..

I have to say that I am fairly impressed with the recruiting efforts the last two years given the record on the field.

It almost appears recruiting is getting better than ever. Now we just need to keep em on campus.

I think with coach Kaz. Gone we'll be able to keep more DL.

That game plan takes on a little bit different dimension when being run by players of a higher caliber.

That's the big thing is keeping them on campus, which means if they are good enough to play, get them some experience and play them.

Don't think recruits don't see the draft and how many Hawks are on NFL rosters.

Iowa gets good players as Garmon adds to that list. This isn't the 70's or 80's. It's not as hard for Iowa to get talent as some want to believe.

I don't disagree Patrick - it's just that our recuriting seems to not be effected by this little downturn.

Re: With Garmon committing..

Darboh is a good receiver but so are at least some of Iowa's commitments at that position. I really like Wilson out of Ohio. He appears to have the big play potential we usually lack at WR.

Re: With Garmon committing..

Without a doubt the position I'm most worried about for the future is Wide Receiver.

I really like the WR's we have gotten so far in this class and I have this gut feeling that Hillyer is going to be a star and KMart is only going to be a sophomore next year.

If Marcus Grant would not have transferred I would be very excited about our crop of WR's, now im just happy with what we have.

But Jon, don't you think there is something a little off about running a game plan that takes 4 and 5 star recruits or NFL talent to "execute" at a high enough level to be successful, while at the same time talking about how Iowa City isn't "sexy," doesn't have beaches?

The whole Iowa has to make do with less talent because it's too hard to recruit mantra.

These two ideas seem to be at odds with each other.

This is where the frustration comes in for the side that can't understand why there can't be at least a little adaptation/tweaks to fit the talent Iowa has. Play to the strength of the players, not the strength of the inanimate system.

I certainly see potential for some solid Wrs. I don't see a great WR.
