Preferred walk-ons are actively recruited by the coaching staff and are allowed to participate in preseason practice, i.e. fall camp.

Regular everyday walk-ons are members of the general student body who just show up on the first day of practice after classes start. I would imagine that these are extremely rare.

usually the stories about the walk-on who gets a scholly and becomes a starter or major contributor was a preferred walk-on. basically it is saying if we had a scholly we would give you one. but we dont so would you like to play for us anyway.

Interesting about the walk on stuff. Seems like there should be some more schollies open.
