I've seen bad Iowa basketball teams. But I can't recall any that were so totally inept on defense and rebounding, which is to say, I can't recall a softer, less tenacious Iowa basketball team.

These Hawkeyes play "defense" and "rebound" like the Washington Generals against the Harlem Globetrotters.

Losing at Indiana is no big deal. Kentucky did it this year, and so did Ohio State. BUT there is NO excuse at ANY level for the lack of fundamentals -- MOVE YOUR FEET -- BLOCK OUT -- JUMP FOR A REBOUND -- that has become this Iowa team's signature.

Next practice, NO BASKETBALLS ALLOWED. Just get down in the athletic stance and shuffle around the floor squared up against, oh, say, a golf cart. And then, for a break, jump-jump-jump and raise your arms as high as possible over your head and YANK down an imaginary rebound.

Do those drills for a couple of hours every night until the next tip-off. If they wanna shoot and dribble and see a basketball, we've got that nice new 24/7 practice facility the guys can visit on their own time.

And WHY, WHY, would Fran START Cartwright? He's HORRIBLE in every conceivable way. Last year is last year. The Wisconsin game is long over. Leave Bryce on the bench.

So let's hope Fran announces a DC before Kirk does. He needs one sooner.

Agree but I think it has more to do with the players he has right now than just practicing defense. It is what it is right now. That is why coach got Ingram and Clemmons and Woodbury for next year. Ingram and Clemmons aren't scoring guards, they're more defensive guards - what Iowa needs badly. Woodbury is going to provide a post presence on both ends of the court. We saw what happened yesterday when Iowa gets exposed for not having that. Kyle Meyer and Mike Gesell will compliment with the offensive output for this team next year.

Agreed 100%. Indiana was driving into the paint at will, and/or completing passes right to Zeller about 2 feet from the basket (DUNK!) all night long. Better perimeter D and a post presence I think will go a long ways towards helping these problems.

It's not like Fran doesn't realize there is a problem, because it is discussed plenty at the pressers.

Whether Fran is a good defensive coach or not, I'm not sure at this point, but personnel is definitely a factor. We'll see where we are a year or 2 from now.

Lame to blame defense on staff. That works for offense... defense is coaching and effort.
